Grid code compliance & model validation studies

A grid-code compliance study assembles the evidence a network operator needs to accept a connection: that the plant meets the code's requirements for ride-through, current injection, voltage and frequency response, and stability — backed by validated models.

Brief us on a project

When this study is needed.

  • A new connection or modification must demonstrate compliance to the connecting operator.
  • A connection offer or modification application requires supporting studies.
  • Existing compliance must be re-established after equipment or settings change.
  • Model-quality evidence is required alongside the performance results.

How we approach it.

  1. Establish exactly which code clauses and versions apply to the connection.
  2. Plan the study set — ride-through, current injection, voltage/frequency response, stability — needed to cover them.
  3. Build and validate the models, then run each required case.
  4. Compile results against each clause with a clear pass/fail and the governing scenarios.
  5. Prepare the submission package in the form the operator expects.

Tools we use.

  • PSCAD / EMTDC for EMT requirements
  • PowerFactory / PSS®E for RMS-domain requirements
  • Automation for repeatable case runs and evidence collation

Scenarios & operating points.

  • The fault, voltage and frequency envelopes defined by the code
  • Minimum/maximum grid strength and credible outages
  • Dispatch range from minimum stable to maximum output
  • Any operator-specified model-quality benchmarks

What you receive.

  • Clause-by-clause compliance report
  • Validated models and a model-quality statement
  • Evidence pack (cases, settings, assumptions) for operator review
  • A submission-ready document set

Evidence that stands up to review.

The package is structured around the code itself, so a reviewer can trace each requirement to its evidence. Assumptions, tool versions and model sources are documented; specific submission processes vary by operator and project.

Questions engineers ask.

Which grid code do you work to?
We work to the connecting operator's applicable code and version — for GB connections that is the relevant national framework. We confirm the exact clauses in scope at the start of every study.
Do you guarantee the operator will accept the connection?
No one can promise an acceptance outcome. We prepare rigorous, well-documented evidence aligned to the code so the submission can be reviewed cleanly; acceptance rests with the operator.
Can you combine EMT and RMS evidence?
Yes. Different clauses are best demonstrated in different domains; a complete package typically uses RMS for breadth and EMT for the fast-dynamic requirements.
